Barnyard Bash

BARN INVITATIONS

When guests receive this clever invitation, they'll have to throw open the barn doors to find out the party details. To make one, cut out a barn shape from red card stock. Cut and fold back a set of barn doors and loft doors. Next, coat the perimeter of the barn's back (avoiding the doors) with a glue stick and press firmly onto white card stock. Carefully cut around the barn, then outline the roof. Write the party information on the inside and cap off the invitation by putting an animal sticker in the loft

Birthday Cake

November 23, 2010

This date has become extremely important to our family. This was the date that Jared Levi was born. Jared will turn one years old this November. So the question becomes what to do? In the Parent's Magazine they have a checklist:
_ What's your budget? Be sure to give yourself some wiggle room for unexpected costs - you know they always pop up last-minute.
___ Where will you have it? It's almost always cheaper and easier to have people over your house, unless you don't have the space.
___ How many people do you need to invite? (Remember wedding guest list hell? You may need to negotiate to keep the numbers down here, too).
___ How many kids/babies will there be? Babies don't need a ton of entertainment, but you'll want to have fun games and crafts planned for toddlers and older kids attending.
___ Invitations: Will you send out formal ones, shoot your guests an email or just let everyone know over the phone?
___ Will you have a theme or color scheme? This can also help you figure out food, decorations, cake and favors.

What Did Katie Do?

I have been using a running program called, Couch to 5 k . It has made me feel successful. Running or exercising in general has been my biggest foe. I am really great at starting anything, but as far as finishing that is my biggest challenges. It started out just my best friend Kristi and myself . However,  our cute group is growing  and now consist of Carla, myself and Kristi. Yeah girls we are doing great. Today is my break day, hooray! I started Saturday and have run four days strait.  Three est foemonths ago  I would have never thought I could or would do anything like this.

As for my incredible little boy he will be 6 months on Monday. Jared Levi is starting to sit up more independently. He is beginning to swim more when he is on his belly, which is allowing him to pivot and push up on strait arms, developmentally this is great! It means he is getting closer to crawling. Today in baby training he was sitting and trying to bounce at the same time. It was so cute. Well, until he got a little over excited and did a head dive into the carpet. Poor baby :( He was such a big boy and was still happy after his little spill. I have a super little boy and I love him so much. He makes me a better person each day.

What did Katie do?

Last night Jeremy and I shared our big three year mark. That's right we have been Married for three years. I woke up and Jeremy had purchased flowers for me. At first I thought it was for mothers day, but than realized was for our aniversary. I'm a dork. So when I came home I had the opportunity to cook a nice meal: artichoke and spinach dip, salad, sauted zucinni and summer squash with a cheesy noodles and chicken. For dessert a truffle with fresh fuit, yellow cake, whip cream, and vanilla pudding. It turned out and I was excited. However, cooking has become more enjoyable especially when the food you makes turnout editable. But the dishes and the clean up afterward gives me many excuses to not cook most of the week.

What did Katie Do?

Today is day three of my workout. I am happy to report that I am still going strong. Thanks to my good buddy LJ our fast walk was 45 minutes with a mix of up hill and down Hill terrain. However, temptation got the best of me after the eight o'clock hour when the baby finally fell a sleep. What do you know? An hour later I will be pulling a Chocolate Chip cookie Pie out of my over. Can you say, "Got milk"? or maybe I will  and should be saying, " Got a treadmill"? I also should be saying which one of these things aren't the same? After mixing the dough and putting the pie together I looked over and this is what I found.

All of my Early Intervention friends will be very proud of my amazing matching skills. However, I am hoping my all amazing cooking powers will allow me to devour something delicious. However, those powers are very hit and miss.

Before: just putting it into the oven

What did Katie Do?

Yesterday I started my workout. I was able to walk for ten minutes on the treadmill and actually was able to run 1.5 miles without stopping. Overall it took me about 30 minutes running speed was about 3.5. I felt so slow but was so proud of myself that I could actually run.
Today after work I was excited and thought to myself that today would be as easy as yesterday. However, running on the road was a different experience. When I started running I heard a fast clicking noise behind me I jump. In the back of my mind all I could think of was car. It didn't occur to me that it wasn't a car because it was moving too fast. As I stopped to look two antelope zoomed past me to get to the farm field east of me. It was kind of exciting to me the baby didn't seem too impressed. My run turned into a fast twenty minute walk due to my bladder. So lesson learned. A treadmill is actually kinder to your knees and bladder than an actual road.

What Did Katie Do?

Okay so my goal is to lose 10 pounds of baby weight that I have left over. I have picked three 5k's to run this summer. I have this secret desire to be a runner, so I guess now is as good as anytime to start. However, getting started has been so hard. Jared Levi has been sick with Bronchitis and Utah weather is.....ummm well...Utah weather. You don't like it wait five minuets and it will change.
Monday is my big starting day. I have found two places I can start to walk/practice running and bonus my mom has a treadmill.  This means if the weather is bad Monday I still have a place to run.
My first goal is to do the 5 k for Lehi's Round up day, June 25 Th, July 9th Haiti's Kids at Sugar House park and than one in Aug 27 in Liberty Park. I found a running schedule that may work for me, hopefully. Cross your fingers and hope for good weather. I will blog about the first run on Monday.

What did Katie Do?

In many ways lifes little adentures define us as people. Personally I feel challenges, trials and triumphs mold us into the person we seek to become. However, I wonder sometimes if we let the population tell us who we are, because of the role we carry in life. I have a four month old son, live in Utah County and work full time. So what does that make me?  This blog hopefully will be a journal that follows my lifes little adventures in an exciting self discovery. Overall I am excited to try something new and well, this is something I have never done before.
